Welcome to Malmbacka traditional cottage village. We are located in Southern Finland in the region of Western Uusimaa, in Snappertuna Village in Raseborg. The King’s Road leads past our village and the Raseborg Castle Ruins are a few kilometres away. The distance from Helsinki is only about one hour by car. We are 15 kilometres from neighbouring towns Ekenäs and Karis and 24 kilometres from the famous Fiskars Ironworks Village.
We offer year around accommodation in charcoal worker’s huts and small timber cottages. There is no electricity or running water in the huts and cottages. The beds are equipped with sheep skins and the heating comes from the fireplace in the hut. Cooking over open fire in the barbeque cottage. You can experience the silence of the nature, the forest animals (elk, dear, foxes etc.) the birds singing, a clear sky for watching stars, the sauna and the forest path. It is easy to come to us by bicycle along the King’s Road.
A few kilometres apart you will find the archipelago with numerous fine beaches and historical ironworks villages. Our partner companies offer local food, smoke sauna, handicraft, dancing, kayaking, golf, trekking on Islandic horses, slope cars, downhill skiing, winterbathing etc.
The history of our village goes back to the period 1600-1920 when charcoal was needed by the ironworks in the region of Western Uusimaa. We conduct dramatized guided tours telling about the life of the charcoal workers in Finland. You can visit our museum and exhibitions displaying life during the above mentioned period. We also present facts about Mr. Dan Andersson, Swedish songwriter and his connections to the charcoal workers’ life.
The first weekend in September we celebrate the Charcoal Weekend and light a charcoal hearth on the premises. Around the hearth there is a market with programme and traditional charcoal workers’ food on Saturday and a church service on Sunday.
You can book your accommodation with us all year around. We are popular among guests of all ages, groups, school camps etc, all those people who want to experience the fine nature and part of Finland’s history. One of the huts is dedicated to animal lovers and their accompanying pets.
