Kirkkonummi  – the municipality closest to the Helsinki

We don’t have that much to show you, they say in Kirkkonummi. However, we are of a totally different opinion. Take a tour around Kirkkonummi, from the sea and the archipelago in the south to the riding stables, big forests and Nuuksio National Park in the northern part of the municipality.

In the centre of Kirkkonummi there is a lot of construction work ongoing. The modern centre spreads out around the medieval Greystone church. Kirkkonummi is the place where many families from the capital region move, in order to be closer to nature and to get a few more square meters for a lower price.

South of the motorway you’ll find the Porkkala peninsula with a dramatic past, especially during the so called Porkkala parenthesis, ie. the time after World War II, when the Soviet Union annected the area as a naval base.

The most beautiful landscapes are to be found north of the municipality centre. The small, winding roads take you uphill, downhill, past lakes and forest, fields, farms and riding stables. In the north of Kirkkonummi there is the Nuuksio National Park, a treasure, which Kirkkonummi shares with the neighbouring municipality of Vihti and the city of Espoo. Walk in the endless forests, enjoy the wilderness, just half an hour from Helsinki.
